Designer: My name is Miles I am 39 years old and work as an automotive/aerospace design engineer, I have a BEng in mechanical engineering and like to find problems and solve them primitively designing vehicles from clean sheet to production.
I’m not a fan of talking about myself, but for progression of the project here is some information on me. yawwwwwwn!
I graduated in 2002 soon after the 911 disaster, jobs were hard to find, after completing my degree I decided to create a portfolio of vehicles instead… with no money to prove my engineering capabilities. While looking for my first job I designed and built a 3 wheel active camber vehicle and a lightweight aluminium electric monocoque motor bike. The vehicles were a success and landed me my first job where I would design a hydrogen fuel cell urban vehicle and later on the single seater GP master’s car 15 cars on the grid in south Africa in three months, a success for the team a steep learning curve for me thanks to an amazing team of dedicated designers.
Next i worked at Caparo vehicle technologies on a full carbon concept car for the Tokyo motor show amongst many other projects including the Renault 2.0 single seater race car, T1 supercar, lotus T125 single seater and Jaguar Limo green.
Having always worked for low volume car company’s I was constantly disappointed with race series going under and company’s folding time and time again. The designers passion and enthusiasm was not enough to have the carpet pulled from under our feet, it was out of the hands of the designers and in the hands of the profiteering business people. grrrr
It was through this frustration that I decided to design my own car, have complete control, challenge myself to do everything from design/manufacturer/ financing (with no borrowing or unwise money men) the old school method…. “never send a man or woman to do a job you can’t do yourself” there was a time when car designers sold cars as well, not comities, .com millionaires and businessmen. If I was to be disappointed, it was going to be with myself not the investor.
So here I perch. Ready!
